DARK CIRCLES TREATMENT TAMPA BAY
Dark circles are known as the puffy, bulging, or sagging bags under the eyes. Having dark circles under the eyes give an unwanted appearance of fatigue and can make you look older than you are. Typically, they are more prevalent among the elderly and people with darker skin tones as they are more prone to have more pronounced darker pigmentation.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES?
Eye bags and dark circles happen for many different reasons. The following are the most common causes:
- Excess fat in the lower eyelid pockets: This gives the appearance of bulging eye bags.
- Loss of volume and hollowing of the lower eyelid: This is common with aging where the lower eyelid and cheeks lose volume where the skin appears more saggy and droopy.
- Hyperpigmentation of the skin: This mostly involves genetics although certain medications can play a role in this as well.
- Thin skin being more transparent: Thinner skin allows for muscles and veins to be more visible.
- Allergies, asthma, and skin conditions: Irritation and inflammation to the skin can leave a puffy appearance.
DARK CIRCLE TREATMENT OPTIONS
Dr. Brown will begin with an initial consultation and assess your situation. From there, the team at TA&PS will recommend and proceed with the approach deemed best. Most dark circle treatments at our Tampa plastic surgery office generalize to one of two things of the lower eyelid: fat removal or filler injection.
SURGICAL OPTIONS
BLEPHAROPLASTY
This option will address those afflicted with larger pockets of fat and skin around the lower eyelids. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery is the recommended approach to remove the excess fat to smoothen the area. The darker pigmentation and complexion under the eye can improve as well, in addition to treating the bulging eye bags.
Dr. Moein will use the latest minimally invasive techniques to ensure optimal safety and recovery with beautiful, natural looking results.
NON-SURGICAL OPTIONS
FAT GRAFTING
This option is aimed at those who have dark circles due to volume loss and sagging. Fat grafting is an option where we will safely repurpose your fat to fill the areas of hollow skin.
FILLERS
Injectable fillers are a popular non-surgical option to restore a youthful volume to the lower eyelid, cheeks, and midface. Fillers used today are comprised of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring sugar found in the body. Hyaluronic acid will act as a vessel to deliver nutrient, hydrate the skin with better water retention, and serve as a cushioning agent. Another benefit of these fillers is that they can assist in stimulating your body’s natural collagen production for the areas treated.
Depending on your consultation, assessment, and aesthetic goals, Dr. Brown will recommend the ideal choice of filler and injection. There is very little pain associated with this non-surgical procedure.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
The best candidates for dark circles treatment are individuals who have relatively good health and have realistic expectations for their ideal outcomes for this procedure.
WHAT TO EXPECT
For those receiving injectables, you can expect them to last between 18 months to 6 years, depending on the type of filler (Restylane, Belotero, Juvederm, Voluma, etc.).
AFTER CARE & RECOVERY
You can expect normal swelling and pain to occuring in the treated area. Icing is important for alleviating pain as well as reducing the swelling and bruising.
FOR SURGERY PATIENTS
A follow up appointment to remove the stitches post-blepharoplasty will take place after 7 to 10 days. Patients can expect to see results around 1 month once they are nearly fully recovered and bruising has subsided.
FOR NON-SURGICAL PATIENTS
General bruising, swelling, and tenderness in the area is expected to last for only a few days or up to 2 weeks. In rare instances, some bruising may last up to 3 weeks.
